A tube of toothpaste

EDM #275 Draw a tube of toothpaste. I am struggling to keep up with the weekly challenges now that Every Day in May is finished... This is three versions of the same tube of toothpaste (all in sketchbook journal). From the left: pure watercolour, coloured ink drawing with grey ink in fountain pen, inked watercolour drawing with dip pen. Vote for your favourite, anyone?

  1. I like the one on the left, the watercolor, best. But the one on the right shows up best. Interesting idea!

  2. All 3 are lovely... I can't decide between the first and the last.. The first one is a lovely simple watercolor... It brings out the colors and the essence so well... The last one is the kind that you would sketch in a private sketchbook with.. Like the dip pen splashes near the toothpaste tube.. It gives it a story! :) Like them both (and also the middle one.. lol)

  3. Jag gillar bast den pa vanstra sidan (likey the left hand side one best)... I like how you made 3 different takes on it, thats neat.
    Very nice.

  4. Ooh, so hard to choose! I like all three but if I had to vote for one, it would be the watercolour on the left.

  5. I simply love all 3 versions of it! But if I really have to choose, the 1st one or the left-most one would be my favorite.

  6. What an interesting approach to the challenge! I like the "pure" watercolor. Odd, because I can never paint in watercolors myself without picking up ink pens or felt markers or pencils to darken and emphasize my results. Leads me to think maybe even my own attempts are better left untouched?

  7. Love the one on the left best :) Not that the other two are bad attempts- but the one on the left has more panache!

  9. I like all three for different reasons and they look good all together. Strange how a tube of toothpaste can become a work of art?

  10. Lovely collection! I think the watercolour one on the left is my favourite, but I also love the splash of colours under the third tube ! Well done !

  11. Definitely the one on the right. I love the strong colour and especially the treatment of the shadow. This is the sort of painting that I aspire to. I would also like to find a toothpaste with such a pretty tube! Mine is plain and boring with dull scientific data on it :-)

  12. That is a tough one! I'm also stuck between the first and last one. The first one I like because the darks are darker, and the background color helps it pop out. The last one I like because of the extra splashes of paint, and the boldness. The middle one is a tad to soft for my taste, but it would certainly be considered great if soft is what you needed!

  13. What a pretty toothpaste tube you have. Nicely sketched/painted.

    My vote: middle one,

  14. Thanks for all your comments! Seems like a lot of people favour the left one! Interesting, since I can not seem to stop myself from inking everything lately! Pehaps I should step back to pure watercolor for a while?

  15. The first and last are my preferred ones - in the first one the yellow brings out the light violet tones and in the last the ink gives a stronger, more forceful image, so I'm afraid I can't choose! Well done!

  16. I vote for the first one. I like the spectrum of values and the orange-y background adds punch to the composition.

  17. They are all lovely, each in its own way. But I am with the majority - I like the first one best!

  19. Your toothpaste tubes are so pretty! As are all three versions, but if I had to choose the watercolor on the left would be my favorite.

  20. These are lovely sketches, all of them - having to pick a favourite I think I too would go for the purely watercolour one!
I have to say you have much prettier toothpaste tubes than we do here in the UK!!
